Imagination Technologies opens new R&D centre in Bristol
Imagination Technologies, a leading multimedia and communications IP (Intellectual Property) company, has confirmed Bristol as the location for its latest PowerVR graphics and multimedia R&D facility.
Imagination has been studying for some time the best locations in the UK to expand its operations to enable it to attract more of the UK’s best engineers, reflecting its strong commitment to maximising its UK R&D base long term. Duke of York visits Bristol’s SETsquared business incubation centre
Bristol’s burgeoning technology sector was given a royal seal of approval yesterday when the Duke of York met the brains behind some of the innovative companies at the University of Bristol’s SETsquared business acceleration centre, which has helped start-up businesses gain the support and funding they need to become a global player. The North Bristol area has also attracted a large concentration of high technology companies in ICT sectors: software, semiconductor design, wireless.
Some of this ICT expansion can be linked to university research competences in aerospace and defence technology and expertise around Filton but much has also been attracted by the commercial opportunities presented by the availability of good quality business parks space enjoying an excellent strategic situation at the intersection of the M4 and M5 motorways, and the attractiveness of living environments accessible from this location (including Bristol, Bath and the Cotswolds) to highly skilled staff.
World-class ICT companies attracted to Bristol include BT, Hewlett Packard, Nokia Siemens Network, Orange and Toshiba. Hewlett Packard has one of its largest global R&D sites in Stoke Gifford and Orange has its headquarters at Bradley Stoke.
